Lincoln County businesses love supporting the local community. Here is one example. Over the last few weeks, ending on Feb. 28, local Lincoln County business Granny’s Attic held a contest to see how creative the elementary school kids in the northern part of the county could be. Granny’s Attic is an antiques/repurposed goods/other home décor business based in Panaca, and the competition was open to any elementary school student in Caliente, Pioche, and Panaca. The kids were issued coloring pages depicting an elderly granny sitting in a rocking chair (hence the “Granny’s Attic Rocks!” tagline) with the admonition to “be creative!” with what they drew, and the winners from each school were judged based off of originality and creativity. “Add another building to the National Register of Historic Places in the town of Pioche. “The National Park Service announced new listings last Friday, including the Ely Fire Station and the Pioche Fire House, adding to the more than 300 historic sites in Nevada. “Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Henry Brean noted that the two firehouses were built in the late 1920s. He wrote, ‘The Ely City Hall and Fire Station, about 240 miles north of Las Vegas, has housed city government offices for almost 90 years and served as headquarters for Ely’s fire department from 1929 to 1999.
