Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge is an oasis in the Mojave desert that offers quietude and an impressive array of wildlife. A favorite destination for birdwatchers, the refuge is a pitstop for hundreds of species of birds as they migrate or overwinter each year. The refuge also offers lakeside camping, with 15 free campsites available on the shores of Upper Pahranagat Lake.
Preserved for thousands of migratory waterfowl and home for endangered species, Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge is a treasure of unparalleled beauty. With an abundant water source, the Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge has over 5,000 acres of open wetlands and lush green grasslands. An important stop on the Great Pacific Migratory Route, thousands of migratory birds and waterfowl fly through this area every year. Dozens of bird species can be found in this long valley, and it is one of over 500 managed areas in the National Wildlife Refuge system.
