Sunset & Landscape Photography Workshop

Meet at the Water Tower in Cathedral Gorge State Park and learn how to take sunset and landscape shots in a gorgeous setting. Part of the Lincoln County Photo Festival – June 21st & 22nd

  • Circular polarizing filter and shutter release

Additional Suggested Equipment: For landscape photography at sunset the following additional equipment is recommended – set of 4×6 inch hard edge Graduated Neutral Density (ND) filters in 1-, 2-, and 3-stop densities (or 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 in the Lee filter system), filter holder suitable for holding 2 filters (e.g., Lee Foundation Kit and adapter ring or Cokin Z-Pro filter holder and adapter ring).

Workshop Description: This workshop will focus on the approach, composition and lighting to create stunning landscape photographs.  The goal of the workshop is to build a composition skills during golden hour, sunset and blue hour to routinely capture the best image possible with the light conditions. The workshop will use the beautiful settings in Cathedral Gorge State Park to work on building a pleasing composition, make focus decisions, and evaluate the entire composition.  We will review the basic equipment requirements (i.e., camera, lens, shutter release, and tripod) and highlight helpful accessories and software applications.  We will also discuss safety, fitness, and photographer guidelines for protecting the environment.

The workshop will focus on beginner and intermediate photographers.  This will be of special interest to those who wish to improve their golden hour and sunset photographs.

Shawn & Corinne Severn Bio: Shawn and Corinne are writers, photographers and adventurers from Las Vegas, NV.  Their primary areas of specialization are long exposure landscapes of the desert and mountain areas of the southwest and the northwest mountains and rain forests.  They also travel extensively telling stories with their travel photographs.

They have published numerous articles and sell their landscape photographs on their website (www.zfrontierphoto.com) and as wall art though Image Conscious, Inc. (http://www.imageconscious.com).  To inspire others to tell their own travel stories with photographs and text, they developed the Crafty Travel Journal – Salish Sea Edition (www.craftytraveljournal.com).   Shawn and Corinne also teach workshops and classes in Landscape Photography, Desert Night Sky Photography, and Travel Photography at University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV). This is their second year as instructors at the Lincoln County Photo Festival and they look forward to meeting and working with other participants.
