“We’re getting better at this. I think it went really, really good,” said Lincoln County Fair co-manager Kathy Cook. “We’ve got a whole new board, new leadership, new ideas.”

The four-day fair was held Aug. 8-11 in Panaca at the rodeo grounds and is growing in popularity.

Cook said, “We had record crowds Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. Even the Saturday night rain and winds didn’t dampen our spirits or enthusiasm too much. Everybody hung on and stayed right there. That’s the western way of life.” [Read More]

With its annual Pioneer Day celebration, Panaca paid tribute to the hardworking and industrious souls who settled the area.

This year’s celebration was put on by the LDS Panaca 2nd Ward. Festivities began on Friday, July 20, and concluded Sunday with LDS sacrament meeting topics on “Our Pioneer Heritage.”

The event served as a homecoming as many gathered for family reunions. Activities included a craft fair, movie night in the park, dynamite wake up, 5K run, flag ceremony, meals, kids races, games, fireworks, and dancing. [Read More]

Alamo

In celebration of our country’s independence, this year’s festivities in Alamo took place from Saturday, June 30 through Wednesday, July 4.

Many activities helped raise money for students and organizations in Pahranagat Valley. The Motorcycle and Quad Barrel Racing for all ages took place on June 30 under the Alamo Rodeo Ground lights. Spectators watched as dirt bike and quad racing enthusiasts raced around barrels in both the small and big arenas. [Read More]

Caliente

On July 4 in Caliente, the morning started with the 6 a.m. Sunrise Salute, commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Then the annual Fireman’s Breakfast began, complete with hotcakes, eggs, sausage, ham and bacon. After eating, people left the park to set up spots along the parade route. The Veterans of Foreign Wars came along before the start, handing out flags to the kids. As always, the VFW Color Guard led the parade down Front Street as people and children stood. [Read More]

A group of photographers recently assembled for the inaugural Lincoln County Photo Festival to learn from professionals and take photos throughout the northern part of the county.

“It is a seriously photogenic place,” said participant Nicole Fernley, who made the trip to the event from Salt Lake City. “There is something of interest everywhere you go.” [Read More]

A larger number of mountain bikers came to the Beaver Dam Gravel Grinder ride on June 16.

The annual event, which had just a handful of riders in year one, hosted 55 this time. The ride included 35- and 45-mile loops, both tailored to advanced, intermediate, and beginning riders, and ended with a barbecue dinner in the late afternoon, following the ride. [Read More]

Californian Thi Van emerged as a star of the recent Lincoln County Drone Expo and Alamo Shootout Races.

The FPV racer delighted spectators with skillful, high-speed maneuvering of his quad-propeller drone during the two-day event that ran May 18-19 at Pahranagat Valley High School. Van made the 360-mile journey from Los Angeles with fellow racer and friend Phillip Chung. Even with other competitions taking place closer to home that weekend, they wanted to try something new in a town with less people than L.A. has in a single city block. [Read More]
