Cycling West: Beaver Dam Gravel Grinder Comes to South East Nevada in June

The Beaver Dam 49er Gravel Grinder is slated for June 15, 2024 at Beaver Dam State Park in South East Nevada. The ride will have 10, 35, and 45 mile options through the rugged and gorgeous terrain of Lincoln County, Nevada. A gravel grinder is a ride that takes place on gravel roads that are generally less technical than singletrack mountain biking. The ride starts at 6:30 am.

Long ago Pioche, Nevada was known as one of the toughest towns in the West. But even as the old mining heydays dried up, people still needed to have a little fun. Now, there is an effort underway to bring the only theater in Lincoln County back to life.
Pioche’s Gem Theater, which opened in 1937, was a key way for the small town to stay connected to World War II America. Since then, the Gem has closed and opened a few times before it was locked up in 2002 after a wind storm blew the roof off.
Escape into Nevada Wilderness: Gravel Grinder

The annual Gravel Grinder, brought to you by the Division of Nevada State Parks in cooperation with Lincoln Authority of Tourism (LCAT), takes you on an intense trail through Beaver Dam State Park. Riders cycle through the park’s high peaks and unique volcanic rock formations surrounded by incredible high-desert scenery. This intense ride gives you the chance to escape from reality and delve into the wonders of the Nevada wilderness.
This cycling event is anything but a race, it’s a chance to experience, at your own pace, a side of Nevada most haven’t seen. For just $60, you can ride alone in solitude, or bring friends to laugh and exercise with. The ride, on June 15, begins with a continental breakfast at 6:00 a.m. into the ride beginning at 7:00 a.m..
Trail-friendly bikes: Fat-tire bikes, mountain bikes, cyclocross bikes, or adventure/all-purpose bikes you will be able to do this ride. Skinny-tire bikes will not be successful on this trail.
The Gravel Grinder puts a test on your ability to be self-reliant, and is strongly encouraged to bring any gear needed to replace/ fix tires, chains, and other pitfalls and or special foods/ snacks. Throughout the trek, there will be stops along the way with water and snacks. The course will be marked and Rangers will be driving the route.
There is an initial meet on June 14 at Campground B to sign in and receive information on the event, with the actual trek on June 15.
